Lazy Day Sailing Options & Adventures Around The Fal Estuary in Cornwall

  1. How about a sail to St Mawes, past the famous castle built by Henry V111, pick up a pasty in the enchanting little port of St Mawes, and then on up to explore the beautiful Percuil River.
  2. A popular way to spend a day is to sail up to The Smugglers Cottage at Tolverne, near the King Harry Ferry crossing point, which is steeped in history. For example, General Eisenhower inspected US troops and landing craft there before the D-Day landings. The extensively stocked bar and restaurant have had a Les Routier award since 1995.
  3. On your next trip you might want to plan a day’s expedition up to Malpas, or further up the River Fal towards its source (tide permitting) and try and reach Lamorran.

  4. Perhaps a lazy sail to a quiet beach, pick mussels off the rocks and then rest up for a bit. Sunbathe, watching the boat bobbing up and down, or use the dinghy to peer into the shallows or do a little fishing.

  5. If history is of interest, how about an exploration up Restronguet Creek to Penpol and Devoran, learning about the Creek’s extraordinary mining history along the way? Stop off for lunch at Pandora’s Inn, the famous waterside pub and restaurant, with its own pontoon and buoys.
  6. If you have a love of the sea and history, the National Maritime Museum is on your doorstep at Falmouth.
